Dr. Hunninghake is the Chief Medical Officer for the Riordan Clinic. Dr. Ron, as patients fondly refer to him, has been with Riordan Clinic for over 30 years. He oversees the team of clinical providers and continues to treat patients for complex chronic illnesses, hormone and thyroid imbalances, heavy metal and other toxicities. When people can’t get the answers they need from traditional medicine, they look to Dr. Ron.
He began his career as a small-town family physician in Salina, KS. The busy-ness of his practice and late-night patient calls began to impact his health and habits. He knew he needed to make some changes. When he joined Salina Family Physicians he was instrumental in founding WellPlan, a comprehensive lifestyle modification program that helped him and his patients get back on track. Down the road when he met Dr. Riordan, his deep interest in wellness made it a natural choice to join the Riordan Clinic team. He became the clinic’s Medical Director in 1989.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Ron’s career has been very full. He co-authored three books, was the former Chairman of the International Schizophrenia Foundation, has presented over 300 lectures on a variety of health-related topics, is a regular presenter at the Orthomolecular Medicine Today conference, and continues to travel the world to lecture about the Riordan Clinic IVC Protocol for Cancer.
Dr. Tims is a Naturopathic Oncologist and the Medical Director of the Overland Park location of the Riordan Clinic. He specializes in integrative cancer care treatments and is an expert in how best to utilize natural therapies to support patients during any phase of cancer treatment.
Originally from Northwest Arkansas, Dr. Tims graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he majored in microbiology. He completed his medical training at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma for an oncology-focused residency program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA).
In 2013, he passed his specialty boards, designating him as a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). Throughout Dr. Lucas’ practice, he has provided integrative medicine support for thousands of cancer patients at multiple CTCA hospitals and clinics. In early 2018, Dr. Lucas was appointed to a leadership role serving as Medical Director of Integrative Oncology at CTCA’s Western Regional Medical Center. He joined the Riordan Clinic team late 2018.
Dr. Tims is married and has two daughters. He enjoys golfing and healthy cooking.
Dr. Moffitt is a Naturopathic Physician who serves as the Medical Director of the Hays location of the Riordan Clinic. He specializes in regenerative injection techniques, pain management, sports rehabilitation, chronic illness, functional medicine, bioidentical hormone replacement and thyroid replacement.
Dr. Moffitt was born and raised in the rural outskirts of Wichita. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he received his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), now known as National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). He spent five years working in the community teaching nutrition and wellness with the Food as Medicine Institute.
Dr. Moffitt strives to get to know each of his patients and thoroughly educate them about their conditions, treatment options, and prognosis. As a Naturopathic Physician, he targets the underlying causes of symptoms utilizing several assessment tools including lab testing to analyze the micro and macronutrient composition of the patient, and in-depth lifestyle analysis.
Dr. Moffitt listens to his patient’s goals and motivations to find the best way to lead them toward a lifetime of health.
Outside of his clinic work, Dr. Moffitt enjoys spending time with his wife Jess, their Catahoula Leopard dog, and his young daughter Juniper. He also enjoys spending time in their garden, wood sculpting, and completing home remodeling projects.
Laura Vasquez, MSN, APRN, NP-C, is a nurse practitioner at the Overland Park location of the Riordan Clinic. Her focus integrative Integrative Oncology and other complex conditions. She provides support to patients in all phases of their treatment.
In her nursing years, Laura worked in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Saint Luke’s Health System managing critical care patients with multiple comorbidities and cardiac disease. As a nurse practitioner, Laura specialized in preventive cardiology focused on helping patients achieve metabolic wellness and reduce disease states such as obesity, diabetes and, vascular inflammation. Laura provided her patients with education, support, and specialized medical plans that included conventional and integrative protocols to reverse disease and prevent further damage.
When Laura was in her early 20’s, she developed an interest in integrative health modalities. She learned more about alternative health principles through continuing education courses, research, and by incorporating new healing techniques into her own life. Over the years, her passion for integrative health has continually grown as she sees the value of natural therapies in the changing landscape of modern medicine.
Laura pursued further training in functional medicine and incorporated the principles into her practice. Her experience includes helping patients with a variety of chronic diseases through in-depth lab testing and treatments such as bio-identical hormone replacement and IV nutrient therapy. She helps her patients heal from chronic disease by looking at underlying contributors like inflammation, infections and environmental toxins. Laura has vast experience with intermittent fasting, ketogenic diet plans, lifestyle education, accountability programs, and IV nutrients and antioxidants.
Laura is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The Institute for Functional Medicine, and The Society for Integrative Oncology. In 2014 she received Saint Luke's Health System’s Clinical Excellence in Nursing Award. In her role as a cardiology nurse practitioner, Laura was recognized in 2019 as a member of the top 10% of providers nationwide for patient satisfaction by Press Ganey Associates.
Laura desires to provide patient-centered care that bridges the best of both worlds of medicine, and hope and healing for the patients at the Riordan Clinic.
While not pursuing her passions in medicine, Laura’s first love is spending time with her family. They enjoy cooking food, playing sports and having a home full of non-stop energy.
Michael (Mike) Shaw, PA-C, ABAAHP, is a graduate of Wichita State University with an Associate of Arts in Respiratory Therapy and a Bachelor of Health Science as a Physician’s Assistant. Mike served as a clinical director and assistant administrator at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas for several years. After leaving Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, Mike founded Optimal Functioning Inc. Life Center, a flagship Wellness Clinic in Wichita. Through his growth and understanding in the field, Shaw implemented the same preventive medicine and wellness concepts in two athletic facilities in Wichita; The Club Olympiad and Wichita Workout and Racquetball Club. In January of 1994, Mike joined the Cardiology staff at Galichia Medical Group.
Mike Shaw joined the Riordan Clinic in 2017 where he focuses on physiological age and the rate of aging of the body’s major organ systems. He specializes in assessing essential cellular nutrients and replacements, supporting the decline in endocrine system function, bioidentical hormone replacement, and non-surgical weight loss.
Outside of work, Mike loves outdoor activities, riding bikes, and relaxing in his hot tub. Mike also has several pets including a turtle, boston terrier, cat and a parrot.
